MBS Center for Christianity & Malaysia Studies (CCMS)

The vision of Malaysia Bible Seminary (MBS) is to promote a truly biblical Christianity; to strive for excellence in the academic world, and to focus on holistic training.
One of the core values of MBS is to respond to modern needs and challenges. As a result, the MBS Centre for Christianity & Malaysia Studies (CCMS) was founded on November 11, 2000.
The research centre has collected material relevant to both domestic and international current events, the development of Christianity and also some historical information. All the documents are carefully catalogued and archived. CCMS is also involved in research projects, organizing seminars, conferences and publishing research papers. CCMS seeks to wisely apply the information and knowledge collected in order to respond to current situations, and to critique and challenge contemporary culture by applying biblical truths to it.
In recent years, CCMS has organized seminars and conferences on current issues. These include: “The current religious development in Malaysia and its response”; “Genetic Engineering: An Opportunity or Crisis”; “Memorial service for 911 and Prayer Meeting for World Peace”; “The Theology and Spiritual view of John Sung” (in commemoration of the 100th birthday of Dr John Sung); “Is Malaysia a Muslim Country?: From the perspective of the Constitution and Christianity”; “Review the Sufferings of Christians as the Aliens from 1 Peter.”; “The influence of Watchman Nee’s Theology on the traditional Chinese Churches’ Spiritual Perspective” (in commemoration of 100th birthday of Watchman Nee); “Homosexuality in the Bible, Theology, Sociology, Medical Science and Pastoral Care”; “The Mission Trip/ Training Ministry in China”; “Decoding The Da Vinci Code” and etc. In addition, we have printed copies of conference publications or on CD-ROMs.
In 2010, Dr. Tan Hann Tzuu in addition to being a researcher himself, took up the post of the Director of the Research Center. At the same time, Ms Yap Siew Hong became an associate researcher. A recent project of CCMS was to collaborate with Sin Chew Daily in the “Smart Youth” campaign. At the end of 2009, CCMS completed a survey, covering Chinese students from 14 schools in the Klang Valley. Later in 2010, CCMS will promote a series of activities, including public talks, conferences and motivational seminar; with the aim of working together with schools, parents and social workers to help young people to make wise choices at this critical period of their lives, with the hope of giving them a better future.
On January 30-31 2010, CCMS and Sin Chew Daily jointly organized a public talk and seminar on the influence of erotic culture among the youth, entitled “The boy's black mine, girls pink trap”. This was co-organized with the Logos Presbyterian Church and Charisma Care Sdn. Bhd. Its aim was to help young people to overcome sexual temptations. Dr Tan Hann Tzuu and Dr Ye Gao Fang were the speakers and this meeting attracted about 460 teachers, parents and young people. Dr Tan and Dr Ye have also given a seminar on “Parenting and Adolescent Deviant Behavior”. They looked at ways in which the parent-child relationship can influence and affect or even avoid the development of adolescent deviant behaviors.
The above mentioned talk and seminar kicked off the “Smart Youth” Campaign and was followed by a series of seminars in secondary schools in the Klang Valley. On April 14 2010, CCMS organized a motivational seminar entitled, “Life as a Rainbow” in the Kwang Hua High School, by Dr Tan Hann Tzuu. About 380 students attended the seminar, including teachers, together with Form 1 and Form 2 students. Dr Tan has also given a talk on the topic in a Confucian Private Secondary School on April 28, 2010.
On April 30 2010, a seminar was given by Dr Tan in SMK Puchong Utama on the topic of “The boy's black mine, girls pink trap – the Dangers of Erotic Culture”, which highlighted the influence of the erotic culture on young people.
In addition, about 540 teachers and students gathered together in SMK Kepong Baru on May 13 for another seminar by Dr Tan on the same topic. The seminar was received with great enthusiasm. CCMS will continue to provide seminars to different schools in the Klang Valley, and promote the “Smart Youth” Campaign to help and care for today’s young people.
Besides a survey of youth culture, CCMS will also continue to carry out further research on the Bible, Theology and other religions, so that MBS will be able to respond to current world situations.
